Play golf all year round with "Snow Golf"!

Fans of "Golf on snow" or "Snow golf" and international competitions have existed now for a number of years to enable golf addicts to continue doing what they love in every season!

The origins of "Snow golf"
The origins of "Snow golf" are quite controversial. They say that it was already being played in the XVIIth century in Scotland, or even that it was in Canada that a handful of golf lovers had the idea to play golf in the snow, equipped with racquets on their feet and improvising a course market out by flags. For others, it was the writer Rudyard Kipling (1865-1936), author of "The Jungle Book", that invented the concept at his American home in Vermont, accompanied by Sir Authur Conan Doyle (Sherlock Holmes), who was also passionate about golf.

An unusual sport now all the trend
For those particularly taken by this crazy side of the sport, the most "extreme" meeting was for a while the world championships which were played in Greenland, 600km north of the Arctic Circle and with temperatures touching on minus 30 degrees. In this entirely uncharacteristic environment, against a backdrop of icebergs and polar bears, every year the layout of the 9-hole course was modified depending on the position of the glaciers. The competition disappeared in 2009.

Now, even if "Snow golf" still remains very confidential, it’s attracting more and more stars, top sports people and company executives to the snow-covered fairways of Megève and Gstaad. Here, you might regularly cross powdery paths with people such as Nicolas de Tavernost, CEO of M6, the footballer Alain Boghossian, skier Julien Lizeroux, tennis player Nicolas Escudé and others with club in hand.

The rules
A game of snow golf is played on a snow-covered course of 9 holes, and in two rounds. Apart from the greens which are called "whites" and the powder which plays the part of roughs, all rounds of golf on snow are played according to the rules of Royal and Ancient and the courses are prepared several weeks in advance.
